Application of Airborne LiDAR in Mapping

Apr 03, 2023

LiDAR has lower requirements for computer performance. With the same survey area, the total amount of data acquired by LiDAR is smaller and the data processing speed is faster.

In recent years, with the breakthrough and development of technologies such as drones, 3D mapping, oblique photogrammetry, and image processing, new surveying and mapping technologies have gradually replaced traditional surveying and mapping methods, and have begun to be widely used in surveying and mapping geographic information projects.LiDAR is widely used in forest resource projects by selecting matching data acquisition methods for different types of projects.

The operation process of the airborne laser solution is mainly: base station erection→route design→base station coordinate measurement→laser scanning→point cloud calculation→point cloud results→internal collection→data processing.

LiDAR has lower requirements for computer performance. With the same survey area, the total amount of data acquired by LiDAR is smaller and the data processing speed is faster.

LiDAR

LiDAR is penetrating, and can directly obtain ground terrain information for densely vegetated areas, and has higher geometric accuracy for targets. However, airborne LiDAR is oriented by setting up base stations, which requires higher professional requirements for field operators.
